Where the trash goes
Polk County contracts Republic Services to run the county landfill and five citizens collection stations. The landfill takes anything a station will not; the stations are for household bags, near where you live, cash only.
The five collection stations take cash only. The landfill takes cash or a credit card. Rates are set in the county's contract with Republic Services, and the county states plainly that attendants may not discount or negotiate them.
Polk County Landfill
The one place in the county that takes more than a household bag. It is out at Leggett, on FM 942.
Polk County Landfill
What it costs
The per-pound resident rate is only for household waste from your own home, furniture included. It does not cover construction or demolition debris. You may be asked for a utility bill or something else showing you live in the county. Commercial haulers, contractors, landlords and anyone disposing of waste that did not come from their own household pay the gate rate by the ton.
- Last load through the gate is 30 minutes before closing.
- No dump trailers on Saturdays — hand unloads only.
- Closed Sundays, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day and New Year's Day.
- Anything bigger than household bags comes here rather than to a station. Trailer loads must go to the landfill.
The five citizens collection stations
All five open 7 AM to 5 PM on the days shown. Residential household trash only — a trailer load goes to the landfill.

All stations close on New Year's Day, Easter Sunday, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. Christmas Eve they open 7 AM to noon.
Which one do I want?
The stations are close and cheap and take almost nothing bulky. The landfill is further and weighed and takes the rest.
A station, and the nearest one that is open that day. Fifty cents a bag under 13 gallons, $2 over — and bring cash, because none of the five take a card.
The landfill. The stations will not take one at any price; the landfill charges $26.46 each.
The landfill, and not on a Saturday — dump trailers are refused Saturdays, and the gate closes at 11 AM anyway. Last load in is 30 minutes before closing on any day.
Either, and the price decides it. A station takes a bulky item for $24 flat; the landfill weighs it at the resident rate, which is cheaper for anything light and dearer for anything dense.
The landfill, off the rim, $5.62 each and no more than four in a day.
The landfill, at the full gate rate. The per-pound resident price is for waste out of your own household and does not cover construction or demolition material.
Recycling, licenses and the rules
Everything here is the county's, and the county is the authority on all of it.
What PolkTX can and cannot do here
PolkTX does not run the landfill, the stations or the recycling center, and has nothing to do with setting a rate. We cannot tell you whether a station is open right now, arrange a pickup, or take a complaint about a load or a fee. The landfill's number is above and the county's page is linked throughout — both are the answer, and this page is only the map to them.

EVERY ADDRESS, DAY, HOUR AND PRICE ON THIS PAGE IS THE COUNTY'S OWN, read from its landfill and collection stations page on 2026-09-08 — including the landfill's per-pound resident rate and the note that it does not cover construction or demolition debris, the $58 per ton gate rate for everyone else, the bag and bulky-item fees at the stations, the holiday closures and the Christmas Eve half day. PRICES CHANGE AND ARE CONTRACTUAL: the county sets them with Republic Services, and its page says attendants may not discount or negotiate a posted rate — so if what you are charged differs from what is here, the station is right and this page is out of date. NOT VERIFIED: whether every station takes recycling as well as household waste, which the county publishes separately and which is linked rather than restated. PolkTX does not run any of this and cannot answer a question about a load, a fee or a closure; the landfill's number is on the page.
