Driver licenses and IDs
Texas driver license offices are appointment only. Book before you drive over — the Livingston office is small and a walk-in is not a plan.

In order. The first step is the one that saves the trip.
Most Texas licenses and ID cards can be renewed or replaced online, and a license can be renewed up to two years before it expires and up to two years after. DPS has a checker that tells you whether your transaction has to be done in person.
Offices are appointment only. DPS says same-day appointments may be available at some offices, but that is not something to count on in a town this size — book ahead.

What PolkTX can and cannot do here
Nothing on this page is a DPS service. We cannot book, change or check an appointment, cannot tell you whether your license is valid, and hold no record of anyone's license. Every link goes to DPS, and DPS is the authority on all of it.

CHECKED 2026-09-08. The rules on this page are DPS's own wording, condensed: that driver license offices offer services by appointment only and that same-day appointments may be available at select offices; that Texas licenses are issued for up to eight years; and that most licenses and ID cards can be renewed up to two years before and two years after expiry. SUPPLIED RATHER THAN READ HERE: the Livingston office's address and phone number. NOT VERIFIED AND NOT PUBLISHED: this office's opening hours, which day it is busiest, or whether it offers every service a larger office does — DPS's office finder is the authority on that, and the scheduler will only offer you what the office actually does. PolkTX is not DPS and cannot book, alter or check an appointment for anyone.
