Who polices Polk County
The Sheriff, the constables, the city departments, the state and the federal side — who each one is, what each one actually does, and the number to call when it is not an emergency.
For anything happening now, call 911. Every agency below dispatches through it, and a dispatcher can reach whichever one you need faster than you can work out which one that is. The numbers on this page are for everything else — a report that is not an emergency, a records request, a question about a case.
Polk County
The county's own peace officers. The Sheriff and all four Constables are elected, and appear on the ballot alongside every other county office.
Polk County Sheriff's Office
The county's primary law enforcement agency outside the cities, and the one that runs the jail. Its divisions include patrol, criminal investigation, warrants, civil process, animal control and the communications center.
Polk County Animal Control
Enforces the county's animal ordinances and state animal law. It investigates possible rabies exposure from bats, foxes, skunks, raccoons and coyotes, and any dog or cat bite or scratch to a person. Loose livestock is a patrol call first — deputies clear the animal off the road, then Animal Control traces the owner, issues citations where warranted, and in rare cases houses and auctions an unclaimed animal. The county says the service runs around the clock through Sheriff's dispatch. There is a Polk County Animal Shelter — the county's own equipment loan form is issued in its name — but the county publishes no page for it, so no address, hours or adoption information appear here. Ask the division.
Constable, Precinct 1
Constables serve civil process and court papers for their justice of the peace court, and are licensed peace officers who may also patrol and make arrests.
Constable, Precinct 2
Constable, Precinct 3
Constable, Precinct 4
Probation
Not police, but part of the same system and the departments people most often cannot find a number for. Both are in Livingston.
Adult Probation
Supervises adults on community supervision for the county's courts. Payments, fee balances and appointment dates are handled through its reporting website; call the office to get set up on it.
Juvenile Probation
The Livingston office covers juvenile probation for three counties, which is why it does not appear in Polk County's own department directory. San Jacinto County publishes its details, and the Texas Juvenile Justice Department lists every department in the state.
City police
Three of the county's five cities run their own department. Goodrich and Seven Oaks do not, and the Sheriff's Office covers them — which is stated here rather than left as a gap, because a city missing from a list of police departments tells you nothing on its own.
Livingston Police Department
The city's own department. Its dispatcher also answers the city's after-hours utility line, which is why one number covers more than policing.
Livingston Animal Control
Run by the Livingston Police Department and reached on the department's own number, from the same building. Inside the city limits this is the number, not the county's — Polk County Animal Control covers everywhere else. PolkTX does not publish the city's leash or nuisance rules: they are city ordinance, they change, and the department is the place to ask.
Corrigan Police Department
The same number reaches the Corrigan Volunteer Fire Department, which shares it.
Onalaska Police Department
The city runs its own department, staffed around the clock. It takes compliments and complaints on a form you can email to the chief or fill in at the station.
City of Goodrich
Goodrich has no police department of its own. The Polk County Sheriff's Office covers the city, the same as it covers the unincorporated county around it.
City of Seven Oaks
Seven Oaks has no police department of its own. The Polk County Sheriff's Office covers the city.
State of Texas
State agencies work in the county but are not based here in the way the Sheriff is. The Rangers are the part most people mean when they ask about "the state" on a serious case.
Texas Rangers, Company A
Company A covers a thirty-five county area of southeast Texas, bounded by Louisiana to the east and the Gulf to the south. Rangers assist local agencies with major crimes, public corruption, officer-involved incidents and complex investigations. THEY ARE NOT A REPLACEMENT for the Sheriff's Office or a city department, and they do not take routine calls: a case reaches them because a local agency or a prosecutor brings them in.
Texas DPS, Livingston Area Office
The DPS law enforcement office for this area — troopers and DPS operations, not driver licensing. It sits next door to the Sheriff's Office on North Washington. The Texas Rangers are a division of DPS.
DPS Driver License Office
Listed here because it is two doors from the DPS area office and people routinely turn up at the wrong one. This is where you renew a license or get an ID card. It is not a police station and does not take reports.
Federal
No federal agency stations agents in Polk County. Federal cases here are worked out of a resident agency, which reports to a field office elsewhere in the state.
FBI — Lufkin Resident Agency
Polk County is assigned to the FBI's Lufkin Resident Agency, which reports to the DALLAS field office — not Houston, which is the guess the map invites. The FBI publishes no street address or direct number for the Lufkin office, so the number here is the Dallas field office, which routes Polk County calls to Lufkin. For anything urgent the answer is still 911.
Alabama-Coushatta Tribe of Texas
The Tribe is a sovereign nation with its own government and its own police department, located in Polk County. It is not a county or city agency.
Alabama-Coushatta Tribal Police Department
The department describes itself as providing tribal, state and federal law enforcement services to the Alabama-Coushatta Indian Reservation and the surrounding tribal community, and says its officers are peace officers certified through the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement. It is on State Park Road 56, the same road as the Tribe's administration building.
PolkTX is not a law enforcement agency and has no connection to any of the ones listed. Nothing here is legal advice, none of these agencies has reviewed this page, and none of these numbers is for an emergency — that is 911. Names and numbers come from each agency's own page and are dated. The Sheriff and the four constables are elected, so they also appear with every other officeholder.

CHECKED 2026-09-08 against each agency's own page where PolkTX could reach one. Confirmed first-hand: the Sheriff's name, address and numbers and all four constables' offices, from Polk County's own pages; Livingston's chief, station address and numbers from the city's staff directory; Corrigan's chief and station from the city's contact and staff pages; adult probation's director, address, phone and fax from the county's own page; and juvenile probation's address, chief and phone from San Jacinto County's page — that office serves three counties, which is why Polk County's own directory does not carry it. THE RANGER ENTRIES ARE THE DPS COMPANY A ROSTER VERBATIM: Livingston — Roggan Stanzel, a Ranger since 2023; Forensic Investigators, Livingston — West Ryan; and of Company A's three lieutenants, Lufkin — Lt. Ryan Clendennen, a Ranger since 2013, under Major Jeff Owles in Houston. SUPPLIED RATHER THAN READ HERE, and marked as such: the Onalaska Police Department's chief, captain, address, hours, email and number, which come from the city's own police page as it appears in a browser — cityofonalaska.us refuses automated requests, so PolkTX could not read it directly; the DPS Livingston area office and driver license office addresses and numbers; and the FBI assignment. THE FBI ENTRY CORRECTS AN EARLIER OMISSION on this page: Polk County is assigned to the Lufkin Resident Agency, which reports to the DALLAS field office rather than Houston, per the FBI's own territory listing. PolkTX could not open fbi.gov to confirm it, because that site refuses automated requests, and says so rather than presenting it as its own check. NOT PUBLISHED: a direct number for the Lufkin resident agency. One appeared in a 2018 FBI release and is old enough to be wrong; the Dallas 24-hour number is given instead. GOODRICH AND SEVEN OAKS HAVE NO POLICE DEPARTMENT and are covered by the Sheriff's Office; that was supplied rather than read off a city page, neither city publishing one PolkTX could reach. THE TRIBAL POLICE DEPARTMENT'S details were supplied rather than read here: actpd.org resets the connection to automated requests, so PolkTX could not open it. Its address, number, two email addresses, the description of its jurisdiction and the statement that its officers are TCOLE-certified are the department's own, reproduced as the department's and not as PolkTX's characterisation of a sovereign nation's police powers, which is not ours to characterise. EVERY AGENCY ON THIS PAGE NOW HAS AN ANSWER: nothing is left marked unconfirmed. THE SERVICE LINKS were opened and checked on 2026-09-08 except two: the Sheriff's daily arrest report and current inmate list both live on inmates.polkcountyso.net on port 8443, which does not answer from here, so those two are published as supplied. The rest resolved to what they claim — the county's own wanted list and crime reporting form, the Sheriff's animal control page, the Texas Public Sex Offender Website's address search, and DPS's Texas 10 Most Wanted. THE FBI LINKS ARE TWO, NOT ONE, ON PURPOSE: the URL supplied was the bureau's WHITE-COLLAR CRIME most wanted list, which is a separate and much narrower list than the one people mean by "FBI most wanted". Both are listed and labelled for what they are. Neither could be opened from here; fbi.gov refuses automated requests. ANIMAL CONTROL'S description, hours and officer emails are the county's own, from the Sheriff's animal control page: available 24 hours through dispatch, officers on duty daily 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM, after-hours emergencies handled by patrol deputies with an officer called out case by case. A POLK COUNTY ANIMAL SHELTER EXISTS — the county's equipment loan agreement is issued in its name — but the county publishes no page for it, so no address, hours or adoption information is given here. THE LIVINGSTON ANIMAL CONTROL NUMBER AND ADDRESS are from the city's own staff directory. ITS LEASH AND NUISANCE RULES ARE DELIBERATELY NOT PUBLISHED: the source offered for them was livingston.govoffice2.com, which is the City of Livingston, CALIFORNIA — a different city with its own ordinances — so none of it appears here. Employment links: the county and City of Livingston job boards were opened and are live; the Onalaska department's hiring page is published as supplied, its site refusing automated requests as before. No agency listed here has reviewed or approved this page, and none of it is legal advice.
