Polk County School Districts
Six districts serve Polk County. Contacts, calendars, board meetings, and where each one posts announcements.
PolkTX does not track school closures. Every district announces through its own system — website, Facebook, phone tree, or app — and those are the only reliable sources on an ice morning. When severe weather is forecast for Polk County, we automatically show links to all six districts so you can check them in one place. We never state whether a district is open.

Rating is the district's overall A–F grade in the Texas Education Agency's 2026 accountability system, covering the 2025–26 school year, with TEA's own scaled score beside it. Statewide, TEA rated 1,186 districts this year and the median scaled score was 82. A rating is a summary of test results, graduation and college-readiness measures — it is not a verdict on a school, and small districts move several points on a handful of students.
Graduation rate is TEA's four-year longitudinal rate for the class of 2025 — the share of a cohort that started ninth grade together and finished in four years. Statewide TEA published a rate for 1,075 districts and the median was 98%. Read it with the cohort beside it: three of these districts graduated every student, on classes of 16, 22 and 25, where a single student is worth four to six points. Livingston's 93% is the county's lowest and its cohort is 285, where one student is worth 0.4. Those are not the same kind of number.
Campus grades are TEA's too, from the same 2026 release, and they do not always match the district's. A district rating is a roll-up; a parent choosing a school is choosing a campus. Where a district's campuses span two grades or more, the card says so.
Students, teachers and grade span are federal figures from the National Center for Education Statistics for 2024–25, one year behind the ratings. PolkTX publishes both as its source states them and does not compute rankings, averages or projections of its own.

Before kindergarten
Programs that teach before a child reaches a district. Not school districts and not rated by the TEA, listed here because this is where a parent would look. Head Start is federally funded and generally serves ages three to five; Early Head Start serves younger children. Eligibility is set by the program, not by us — call them.

MET Head Start
Run by MET, Inc. — Motivation, Education & Training — a nonprofit operating Head Start centers across rural Texas, Louisiana, Minnesota, North Dakota and Wyoming. Its two Livingston centers share a phone number, a website and a Facebook page. MET's national enrolment line is (281) 659-1305.

Region 6, adult education and college
The six districts are not the whole of education in Polk County. These are the service center behind them, the route to a GED or a CDL, the college campus in Livingston, and the board that helps pay for training.
Region 6
The service center all six districts belong to.
Texas divides its schools into twenty education service centers. Polk County sits in Region 6, headquartered at 3332 Montgomery Road in Huntsville, which provides its member districts with training, special-education and PEIMS support, co-operative purchasing and shared staff the small districts could not fund alone.
Its most useful page for a resident is the district employment board, where member districts post openings in one place. Five of Polk County's six post there — Big Sandy, Corrigan-Camden, Goodrich, Leggett and Onalaska. Livingston ISD does not, and hires through its own site.
The Windham School District also posts there. Windham is the district that teaches inside Texas prisons, and its Polunsky campus is in Livingston — so teaching jobs at the unit appear on that board rather than with any Polk County district.

Adult education
A GED at no cost, and a CDL, through Region 6.
The Region 6 Adult Education Department is the lead agency for the Houston–Galveston Area Council (H-GAC) Adult Education and Literacy Consortium, funded by the Texas Workforce Commission. It runs direct instruction across the Gulf Coast region, which includes Polk County.
What it offers: adult basic education in reading, writing and maths; English as a Second Language; High School Equivalency preparation for the GED; Integrated Education and Training, which pairs coursework with hands-on career training; a Commercial Driver's License program; career pathways advising; digital skills training; and support services.
The part worth knowing about: ESC6 states that eligible Texans can earn a GED at no cost through an HSE testing voucher. If the cost of the test is what has been stopping someone, that is the thing to ask about.

College in the county
Three colleges at one site, on the 59 Loop.
The TSUS Polk County Center is a shared campus on US 59 Loop North in Livingston, run by the Texas State University System. Courses are jointly offered by three Lamar institutions — Lamar Institute of Technology, Lamar State College Orange and Lamar State College Port Arthur — at one location, which is how a county this size gets programs it could not support separately.
It offers Associate of Arts and Associate of Science degrees and Certificates of Completion, across healthcare, business, industrial technology, public service, and workforce and continuing education. On site it also runs GED classes and testing, an educational testing site, academic advising, community education, a career center and library services.
For a county whose nearest community colleges are otherwise an hour or more away, a campus inside Livingston that grants degrees and certificates is a material change in what is possible without moving.
On the postcode: Livingston's ZIP recently split into 77351 and 77352, divided by US Highway 59. The center sits on the 77352 side, so the 77352 its own site publishes is right — not the typo it looks like against older records.

Paying for it
The part that is not a school.
Region 6 and the TSUS center are places to study. Workforce Solutions Deep East Texas is the public workforce board for this region, and its job is the other half of the problem: working out what to train for and how to pay for it.
It states that it can help pay for training in the region's high-skill, high-demand occupations, that its specialists will help you decide what to study and how to fund it, and that funded training has to be with a provider on the state's Eligible Training Provider List. Its education and training page also sets out the routes it does not fund itself — Pell Grants for undergraduates, the GI Bill and the Hazlewood Act for veterans through the Texas Veterans Commission, Vocational Rehabilitation for people with disabilities, and state grants and scholarships.
Livingston is one of six places it keeps an office, so this is a conversation somebody can have in person rather than through a website.

How this page is maintained
District contact details and board meeting cadences are confirmed with each district and rechecked annually. Calendars link to the district's own published version rather than being copied here, so they cannot go stale.
